Benefits of Business Informatics (BI) Bachelor Studies

at University of Gdansk, Poland

1. informatic studies of the determined pragmatic, professional orientation in academic environment;
2. training of BI students in the skills and knowledge for the highly requested in IT job market professions, like: programmer, programmer of mobile and web business applications, administrator of the companies and institutions computer networks;
3. the BI studies curriculum was established and is being continuously improved in a close cooperation with IT companies’ managers and experts, during the systematic, regular meetings of BI Business Partners Panel – the forum of concepts and ideas exchange of scholars and practitioners;
4. the IT companies of this Panel offer the BI students: 2-semester traineeships and the related financial grants; experienced programmers of the Panel firms also conduct the classes for BI students at the University;
5. the last two semesters of BI studies are performed in the rhythm and order of the educational dual system, which means that didactic week is divided into two parts – in 2 days BI students take academic classes, while in 3 remaining days they participate in the traineeships in the host IT companies;
6. BI programme is currently being enriched also by the business and transferable, so called “soft” courses, like: teamwork, negotiations, communication in business, multicultural social environments or autopresentation;
7. videoconference lectures given by BI/IS/MIS scholars from the foreign universities;
8. conducting of entrepreneurship and innovations workshops in: science and technological parks and IT incubators, which facilitate BI students to establish their innovative start-ups;
9. BI teaching programme has been implemented in cooperation with the well-known IT international academic initiatives, such as: Microsoft Imagine Academy, CISCO Networking Academy, SAP University Alliances;
10. BI studies are financially supported by European Union educational bodies and programs as well as, by the Regional Pomeranian Authority in its innovativeness initiative – Intelligent Specializations for Pomerania;
11. the quality and a high essential didactic level of BI studies have been already confirmed by Gdansk BI students successes and awards in international student IT contests, such as: Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition or Association for Information Systems Student Chapter Competition.
